How do zines offer different possibilities of connection and expression for anthropologists? For this year’s AAA meeting in Toronto, I participated in a roundtable organized by Stephanie Sadre-Orafai and Craig Campbell that focused on print politics and anthropologists’ collaborative experiments in creating alternative publications beyond the standard academic monographs and peer-reviewed research articles that we’re all too familar with. Thanks in large part to the tireless work of Stephanie, the roundtable – which also included participation from Kate Mariner and Marina Petersen – led to the creation of this wonderful little zine. Stay tuned for more zine-y experiments to come at the 2024 AAAs in Tampa!

I'm a cultural and environmental anthropologist with interests in biodiversity management and smallholder agriculture in rural Amazonia. I've conducted research on agrobiodiversity management, anthropogenic soils, and community-based conservation. Currently, I'm also interested in the ways that farmers rely upon social networks, local ecological knowledge, and agrobiodiversity management to contend with the uncertainties of global climate change.
