In spring 2024, several students in the course Wicked Science (or “Transdisciplinary Problem-Solving”) made zines as a final project to illustrate a wicked problem of their interest. These touched on such diverse issues as LGBTQ+ healthcare, mental health in professional baseball, and self-driving cars. One even illustrated the challenges of snow leopard conservation in a zine designed for children. Together, this collection really illustrated the value of tackling complex issues in formats that are enticing and accessible to relevant audiences beyond academia. Please check them out!

I'm a cultural and environmental anthropologist with interests in biodiversity management and smallholder agriculture in rural Amazonia. I've conducted research on agrobiodiversity management, anthropogenic soils, and community-based conservation. Currently, I'm also interested in the ways that farmers rely upon social networks, local ecological knowledge, and agrobiodiversity management to contend with the uncertainties of global climate change.
